He's
an inspiring symbol, for
all of us, of perseverance, tolerance, and persistence. For
a quarter-century he was the acclaimed muralist for the
world's only Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. Many of
his quality drawings and paintings enhance the book.
Written in a third-person, conversational style which speaks
intimately to the reader, the book is packed with
curious details of the past and present, and with 100-year-old
tales of the Plains. The two unifying themes: triumph
through wit and willpower, and the circular paths
of life --circles
that bless our lives. Sub-themes include corn,
of course
(actual corn and the comedic kind), and the stories
of lives rooted in prairie soil.
